so this time it's Turkey and Caucasus...

as i did Berlin-Kyjiv (Ukraine) last year i'm planning my summer-exp for this years.

so far the plan is to get of in Istanbul, avoid the tourist south, not to do an "alp d'huez" every day but see some of the inner parts of turkey, then further east through Capadokia, round Mount Ararat twords newly liberalized Georgia. Instead of taking the awfully busy road to Batumi along rainiy Black Sea and due to the remainingly unclear political situation in the southern province of Ajaria there's the option of crossing the border at Posof which means more climbing.
Do have lots of travelling exp and had former trips to former SU (not so with Turkey, but I'll get my first course in turkish till then) no breakneck-sort of a person know'in what i'm talkin about (doin' well in russian).

Impossible to do Turkey in August?

Did you had any SERIOUS trouble down there (trucks/thugs)?

Wanna join me?

Hi tillstar!
That's interessting! I am planning to have this route in summer, too. But I think that I'll arrive in Istanbul not until July 14th.

Since I also thought about crossing the Turkey/Georgian border, but had to find out that it is closed, I wonder how you are going to make it?
Originally I wanted to fly back from Tiblissi but now decided to take a flight from Van and from there back to Istanbul and Hamburg.
Turkey impossible in August? I don't think so. According to the books, the average altitude in eastern anatolia is between 1000 and 1500 meters thus I am sure that it won't get too hot there.

Regards
Tristan

Hi,

I am thinking of a tour starting in Istanbul in Mid June as well. I have only time for a three week holiday though... So I thought I would just travel Turkey and get back by bus/plane.

I am 31 years old and did a cycle tour from Germany to Istanbul two years ago.

If you could think of traveling together with me the first three weeks, just email me (lutzig@gmx.de), then we can have some closer discussion about time and route.

Hi Tillstar!

I'm looking for a nice travel plan this summer, august precisely. one month I have free. I do not have any special preferences, mainly because I have never travelled by bike, although I consider myself a hard pedaller.

If you're planning to spend august cycling, I'd be very pleased in joining you. The area you mentioned is something I'd very much like to visit and move around.

My name's Jason. I live in Spain. Will be waiting for your answer.

Cya!
